Waldo Lake Campout Photos

August 12-14, 2011

We camped out for the weekend at Waldo Lake to learn more about this beautiful area and why it needs additional protection. We spent two evenings around the campfire learning about the areas we hope to protect from David Stowe and the history of the protection efforts from David Stone. And we hiked for two days. One intrepid group brave some snow crawling and cliff scrambling to make it to the summit of South Twin. For that they were rewarded with an awe inspiring 270 degree sweeping from Waldo Lake to the Sisters to Davis Lake to Maiden Peak and Diamond Peak in the distance. Others hiked to Bobby Lake through old growth Hemlock to see it's pure blue waters. And others hiked to Betty Lake on Sunday. And then there were those who just wanted to go kayak paddling on Waldo itself, a treat worth the trip. Our 27 enthusiasts from Central Oregon, Portland, Corvallis, and Eugene pronounced the weekend a rousing success, despite those pesky mosquito critters. Thank you all for coming, and we hope to see you as this protection campaign goes forward. For more information on the campaign, go to our Keep Waldo Wild page.
