The Many Rivers Group (MRG) of the Sierra Club Oregon Chapter represents almost 3,000 Sierra Club members in Lane, Douglas and Coos Counties. Welcome to the Newly-Redesigned Many Rivers Group Web Site!

Please pardon our dust as we finish construction. We hope you'll visit often for news, events and outings in our area.

Join the MRG News Email List!

The Many Rivers Group has an email list of members and friends who would like to be contacted electronically for action alerts, volunteer needs and upcoming events. While we do post activities of other like-minded groups as well as our own, we will try to keep the number of emails to 1 to 2 a week at the most. If you would like to be on this list, go to the subscription page and sign up. Hope to see you there soon!

LAND BOARD TO CONSIDER MID-COLUMBIA RECOVERY PLAN, ELLIOTT STATE FOREST MANAGEMENT AT FEB. 9 PUBLIC MEETING

Increased logging on State Forests threatens fish & wildlife, clean water, and opportunities for tourism and recreation. The Legislature previously made logging a part of, but not the primary purpose of, our State forests, and now that Measures 66/67 have passed the pressure to fund schools should be alleviated. With the stock piles of lumber and low prices, we don't need to log these precious natural resources. Any changes to the management of our forests should:

  • include permanently protected conservation areas
  • be subject to scientific analysis and public review
  • consider how future management of State Forests will affect Oregon's plan to combat global warming
  • make clean water, fish and wildlife habitat and recreation priorities over logging

The Land Board's schedule and agenda can be found here.
