Determined members of the Rogue Group Sierra Club Illinois Valley Section and others attend the Anti-WOPR Rally held at the BLM offices in Medford on January 8, 2008. This was despite the snow and ice that
graced the Illinois Valley and the wind and rain in Medford the day of the rally. About 100 people attended. Rally organizers Annette Rasch and Dorothea Hover-Kramer saw to it that the word was out, the speakers
and sound system lined up, and a bus was organized to pick up people from
Takilma, Cave Junction and Selma. Attendees braved the wet, cold and windy
day to hear speakers from Klamath Siskiyou Wildlands, the Rogue Group Sierra
Club, landowners, the Siskiyou Project and to enjoy music and dance.
Mary Smeltzer of the BLM came out to accept signed petitions asking BLM to abandon
the WOPR. The citizens were not allowed inside the building, not even to use the restroom, because the BLM officials were concerned that someone might chain themselves to a toilet. However, the local police were able to stay nice and dry!
